Battery Powered Automobiles

Battery Powered Cars….

So we see the big automakers trying to cram battery powered cars down our throats. We saw this in the super bowl adds during the 2011 super bowl commercials. The auto industry is wanting to see cars running up and down the freeways using batteries instead of gasoline.

With the way the world is going with wars and rumors of wars in the middle east where a large supply of our fuel comes from it does make sense to find alternative sources of energy and fuel. But the problem is the cost of electric here in America. What the car manufactures are not telling us in the commercials is what is the cost of recharging one of these cars. In an article from Scientific American the question is raised “drivers need to know how, when and where they will be able to recharge their batteries, not to mention how much it is going to cost.
The addition of an electric car to a home's electrical system is not just a new load, it's a big load—in some places doubling what a home currently consumes, says Paul Fulton, general manager of Cisco Systems's Prosumer Unit (which works on both consumer and professional networking technology).” Source

In my opinion we are in need to find alternatives to our energy use-age but is electric cars really the answer? There are many variables out their in the world, such as hydrogen, solar, nuclear, and etc. We need to take a look at all sources of alternative energy before just taking the first one that is jammed down our throats. I am no saying that electric cars are bad but it just seems like all of a sudden we are getting hit from every direction in this new concept.
