Top Five Smartphone Apps One Should Not Be Without

With smartphones on the rise and phasing out the basic cell phone, applications for these devices are overtaking and making everyday chores less of a nusiance. Smartphones are not only for fun and texting and talking anymore, these awesome devices are a tool that helps each business person that is tech savy eliminate many of the multitasking challenges that business people suffer with each day.

With millions of applications out on the market for smartphones which ones are good to use? Here is a list of five applications that are free to download that will help you with some of the everyday business challenges that each business person is faced with.

1. Vilingo - this application is an awesome virtual assistant that takes the words you speak and put them into text. Need to call the office, need to post an update on your facebook, or text another person while driving, this application is what you need. Vlingo lets you minimize the typing you need to do on your smartphone.

Vlingo basic service is free on Android, Blackberry, and iPhones. There is a premium service available, but so far I have not needed to upgrade my service yet. If you are like me and use the smartphone for many different things while driving then this is an application that is needed by everyone.

2. CamScanner - the camscanner is one of the best free applications that I have found for the business person on the fly. Basically the CamScanner turns your smartphone into a document scanner at the flip of a switch. Just simply take a picture of the document and the CamScanner crops the image with auto-crop then enhances the image quality and creates a standard PDF file of the document. Again this is one of the first apps that I would search the market place for if you are a business person.

3. Google Maps - With Google's Maps app who needs expensive GPS devices, no one. This free application is another must for all business people on the go. With the expensive GPS systems on the market why spend money on these when Google Maps app is free to who ever owns a smartphone.

4. Credit Card Reader - this application from Square Technology is perfect for the business person that takes credit cards. This pocket size credit card reader plugs into the audio jack of your iPhone or iPad.

5. Traffic Check - when you leave the house now you can check live traffic conditions from your smartphone. Avoid traffic jams, accidents, or other trouble spots while you drive. Is Your Laptop Monitor Busted

Is your laptop monitor (screen) broken? If so you may find that this is the most expensive part on a laptop and probably one of the first things to go out on the laptop. Even today with the prices of laptops dropping in price when the monitor goes out or breaks this part can cost more than a whole new laptop computer. Here are a couple options for you if your monitor goes out on your laptop.

First, you may consider getting a standalone monitor and plug it into the back or side of the laptop. Most laptops have a vga plug built into them to run a external monitor. Many people opt to do this since the parts alone for replacing the original monitor are so expensive and it is extremely hard to find a technician to replace the components that need to be replaced.

Second, since most of the time it is cheaper to purchase a laptop that is exactly like the one you have than purchasing the replacement components for the monitor, you can purchase an exact laptop and swap out the hard drive that holds all your personal information.

Third, you can purchase a new laptop and clone the broken computer with cloning software and then install the clone program on the new computer. By doing this it will make your computer just like the broken one as long as you purchase one just like you presently have.

There is no real simple solution for fixing a broken monitor on a laptop. This is one of the most fragile parts of a laptop also. There are many parts to a monitor and to replace them you almost need to be a surgeon, this is why it is so hard to find a computer technician to work on them. I hope that you do not have to be bothered with this problem and your monitor never gives you a problem.

Amazon is excited about their new Amazon Cloud Player since it released an announcment of their integration to Facebook and Twitter.

With other streaming competitors like Rdio and Spotify who have weaved into Facebook and Twitter for their music apps. Amazon Cloud Music Player is a huge competitor to these other services in the Cloud Music Space. Even though Amazon Cloud Music Player is not a subscription base service it is still a large competitor to these other services.

According to a report from TechCrunch, Amazon’s Cloud Player has magically started working on the iPhone and other iOS devices. The service, which was initially available to only PC and Android users, seems to have gained iOS support.

Google Is Purchasing Motorola?

CNN Money this morning has reported the largest acquisition ever to take place, this surprised deal is for Google to purchase Motorola Mobility for and estimated $12.5 billion dollars. Yes Billion!!!

Google just announced that it is acquiring Motorola Mobility. The search and online advertising company is buying the company for approximately $12.5 billion (or $40 per share), in cash. The price represents a premium of 63 percent to the closing price of Motorola Mobility shares last Friday. Google had about $39 billion in cash at last count.

Here’s the other important part of the PR (the why, and what happens to Android now):

The acquisition of Motorola Mobility, a dedicated Android partner, will enable Google to supercharge the Android ecosystem and will enhance competition in mobile computing. Motorola Mobility will remain a licensee of Android and Android will remain open. Google will run Motorola Mobility as a separate business.

In a blog post, Google co-founder and CEO Larry Page writes that Google has acquired Motorola not only because of its strength in Android smartphones and devices, but also for being a “market leader in the home devices and video solutions business.”
